While much of our work may be considered destination photography, a more apt term for the experience we strive to bring our clients is immersion photography... both within the setting and within the self. Creating a space in which clients can reconnect to nature and themselves imbues the art with a transformative quality.
We take a similar approach in the studio, engaging clients in a process of visual self expression and exploration to produce exceptional images that rekindle emergence on subsequent viewings.
The images produced serve as both a temporal memory and a remembering of something timeless that emerges when we allow ourselves to simply breathe. That natural reconnection and emergence is our ultimate thrill at DavisPhotoArts.
You'll find Steven behind the camera, and Lauren running the video. Together, we produce timeless, breathtaking imagery you will treasure.
Our guiding principle at DavisPhotoArts is keeping things genuine...the beauty we strive to reflect in our work as well as our interactions with our clients.

Far and away from snap shots in the park, we are able to bring studio lighting to a wide variety of environments ranging from corporate-cubicle-conference rooms, to beaches and far beyond.
What makes our portraits Art is how we portray each subject, engaging the real person, gently peeling back the layers so often encountered when faced with a camera lens staring at you! We all have a tendency to freeze when the camera is pointed at us, but real rewards are to be found when vulnerability and trust are balanced with technical and practical considerations. New levels of genuine nature can be captured in such moments!
Our portraits are exquisitely lit, delicately edited, and lovingly printed with the expectation that the resulting print will be a life-long reminder of that one pure moment in time. Our clients' defining elements are preserved and the resulting images are not only true to who you are, but the best you that can be!
There are 2 main reasons to consider Art Portraiture, but many more nuanced reasons as well.
- First, Art Portraiture is lit to match the face of the individual(s) in the best possible way while keeping a natural feel about the image. We take extra care to create a "box of light" within which clients can move and emote without compromising the quality of our lighting arangement. This is particularly important with couples where faces are often turned towards each other as if in conversation, so the light has to be flexible enough to ensure proper, consistent and meaningful illumination of both faces.
- Second, careful attention to the out of focus area of an image is paramount to success in portraiture. We have the equipment and skills to craft an image where the viewer's eyes are drawn to the most important elements of that picture, and keep the viewer engaged longer than with standard "flat" lighting. With that said, sometimes that lighting made fameous by youtube and tictok where a ring of LEDs light the subject straight-on *does have it's purpose* but that is usually NOT portraiture. We can do it all, depending on need, but our images are set apart from others' by our artful lighting.
- We create "consistency of look" for corporate projects that match the image of that particular corporation's branding.
- We are able to create different artistic "looks" for different groups within the corporation.
- We are often called upon for the duplication of a "branded look" consistent with prior photos on the corporate website that can't be re-shot.
- Advanced posing techniques to produce an image that doesn't *look* posed.
- Creative lighting techniques to highlight different "moods" within a couple's relationship ranging from intimate and loving, to unified and unbreakable, to light hearted and easy.
- Consistency of "look" for triptics, books and albums. Our printing skills help maintain consistent quality across all output forms whether in lay-flat coffee table books, or framed/mounted art on the wall, or even triptic panels as a centerpiece of a larger display.
We also produce a wide range of headshot images to meet our clients' needs. Headshots, as with every other type we shoot, are done as Art Portraiture. Yes, we cost a bit more than some others, but we feel the extra care is worth every penny.
- Authors, actors, singers, musicians and other performers need up-to-date headshots to show their current look! We produce eye-catching, affordable and true to life images that distinguish you from your competition.
- Businesses often have a particular "look" required for their target demographic, usually involving display across multiple platforms. We keep your look consistant across platforms from print to social media, and create images that seamlessly dovetail with your branding efforts.
- Headshots for dating sites are also a common request. We show the real you, but the best you possible so when you finally meet that person on the other side of the keyboard, they already feel you are familiar - that bit of ice is already broken. This also removes the potential for disappointment on that important first date!
